We were tasked with creating a custom mural on a timber fence and brick block for a new housing development. The design features the topological lines of the local maunga, linking the site to an important landmark. It reimagines the path of lava that flowed from the mountain during an eruption about 120,000 years ago, symbolizing movement and how people currently move throughout the city. A key theme of the mural is reinforcing that Kaweka is home, emphasizing that while residents may move around the city and beyond, when they see the distinct mural on return they know they’re home.
